The company behind Disaronno Italian liqueurs is moving its North American headquarters to Maryland.

Illva Saronno Holding S.p.A.  has purchased a majority stake in Baltimore’s Sagamore Spirit, with plans to broaden its portfolio and expand the Maryland-made whiskey to new markets. The company will relocate its New Jersey headquarters to the Port Covington neighborhood, now known as Baltimore Peninsula , where the Sagamore Spirit distillery is located.

“As we look to expand Sagamore Spirit to new markets, we believe that relocating our North American headquarters will allow us to maintain the strong Maryland-based connection and invest in the local community that has empowered this brand to thrive,” said Robert Cullins, executive VP of Disaronno International LLC.

Sagamore Spirit hit the market back in 2016, putting Maryland front and center for rye whiskey—something that locals call "quintessentially Maryland." The distillery opened the following year with plans to attract up to 100,000 visitors per year. Sagamore Spirit became a major tenant of the area, joining City Garage as a neighbor for the forthcoming Under Armour global headquarters .

“I’m also very excited that Illva Saronno Holding loves our Baltimore Peninsula location so much that they’ve decided to relocate their North American headquarters to Maryland,” said Under Armour founder and Sagamore Spirit co-founder Kevin Plank . “As a beacon of entrepreneurial power and potential, Baltimore Peninsula represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to be a foundational partner in creating a brighter future for one of America’s best cities.”
