Key Industries:
Cleantech and renewable energy
The Capital of Cleantech
As the nation and the globe increasingly turn to clean energy solutions, a groundswell of companies are innovating to power our future. How can the right business environment help innovative businesses protect our environment? A well prepared workforce, the right funding and incentives, and a hotbed of research and innovation. That’s how. Welcome to Maryland. Take a look around.
Opportunities in Offshore

Maryland is all-in on supporting the offshore wind industry. In fact, the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) offers financial incentives to new or emerging businesses entering the offshore wind supply chain in Maryland. The MEA also incentivizes organizations implementing wind workforce development programs. And Maryland-based Arcon Training Center is one of the only sites on the East Coast where people can get the safety training needed to become offshore wind workers. Specialized wind-ready workers join a workforce that’s rich with engineering talent.
(Battery) Powered Up

In 2021, a Maryland power plant abandoned coal for batteries – a first for the U.S. That’s not the only exciting thing happening in batteries around here. Battery company Saft produces the highest power density electrochemical cell in the world from its Maryland facilities. Ion Storage System is developing a next-generation battery that is safe and energy dense. These companies, like many in Maryland, take advantage of nearby access to the density of military installations and federal agencies, which are projected to continue to invest in clean energy innovation, while acting to reduce their facility emissions.
