The federal government has awarded nearly $10 million to the state of Maryland to support tourism development throughout the state.
The award – which is being managed by the Maryland Department of Commerce Office of Tourism – will help bolster the state's continued recovery efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. The grants will benefit Maryland’s officially recognized Destination Marketing Organizations; a variety of government agencies, economic development organizations, and tourism industry partners; outdoor recreational assets; and the state’s 18 Scenic Byways.
The funding is through the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) $750 million American Rescue Plan: Travel, Tourism & Outdoor Recreation program . The program specifically provides $510 million in state tourism grants to advance the economic recovery and resiliency of communities where the travel, tourism, and outdoor recreation industries were hardest hit by the pandemic.
