Maryland announces new office in Seoul, support for Korean startups

09/16/2022 | Amanda Winters

The Maryland Department of Commerce is planning to open a new foreign trade office in Seoul, South Korea.

The announcement – which occurred during Governor Hogan's overseas trade mission  this week – brings the department’s total number of foreign offices  to 19 and includes Africa, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, France, Germany, India, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Peru, Singapore, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom. Representatives within these offices help Maryland companies explore overseas markets and attract foreign companies to the state.

That same day, the governor also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korean Venture Business Association (KOVA) to support Korean startups looking to enter the U.S. By partnering together, KOVA companies can participate in the Maryland Global Gateway , an initiative that helps international companies make a soft-landing in incubators throughout the state.
