Three local institutions are expanding their research and technology capabilities with support from the Maryland Department of Commerce.
Johns Hopkins University; Loyola University Maryland; and the University of Maryland, Baltimore have raised a total of $7.2 million in private funding for new research professorships, with Commerce matching the endowments through the Maryland E-Nnovation Initiative, a state program created to spur basic and applied research in scientific and technical fields at colleges and universities. A total of $13.5 million is going towards the educational ventures.
The research is set to cover a variety of topics, including artificial intelligence in healthcare; ocular regenerative medicine; biology; neurosurgery; bioengineering; and social work.
“Maryland Commerce is thrilled to partner with our state’s world-class universities to accelerate cutting-edge research across a range of disciplines, including health care, artificial intelligence, and economic justice,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Kevin Anderson.
