Manufacturing the Future

Has it hit you yet? The day you realize your company is no longer just a manufacturing company. It’s a high-tech business. As your business invests in tech equipment to increase efficiency, it should be in an environment moving just as fast as you are. Consider Maryland, a place with a prepared workforce and connected infrastructure.

Maryland’s Workforce

With the rise of Industry 4.0, manufacturing sure looks different today than it did just 20 years ago. As manufacturing companies implement new technologies and streamline processes, the role of the workforce, although different than what it used to be, is as important as ever. Advanced manufacturers need to be backed by a workforce that’s trained, technologically savvy, and ready to work. Maryland’s dedicated apprenticeship programs, career and technical education programs, and leading universities mean a top-notch workforce is ready to assist Maryland manufacturers.

Apprentice Programs

Offered through the Maryland Extension Partnership (MEP)

MEP’s apprenticeship programs help prepare workforce to be industrial maintenance technicians, as well as work with CNC machines, additive manufacturing or welding. The MEP program is among the first competency-based programs in the nation.

Workforce Development Grants

Partnership for Workforce Quality (PWQ)

PWQ, a program from the Maryland Department of Commerce, provides matching training grants and support services targeted to improve the competitive position of small and mid-sized manufacturing and technology companies. Grants are used to increase the skills of existing workers for new technologies and production processes, improve employee productivity and increase employment stability.

Training & Education

Specialized Training & Top Universities

Specialized manufacturing and production training is offered at various Maryland community colleges. And with some of the nation’s leading engineering programs at University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins, Maryland has a strong pool of engineers to support our manufacturing sector.

Continuing to Build Tomorrow’s Workforce

In Maryland, you won’t go it alone when it comes to finding skilled workforce for your manufacturing business. The state offers tax credits and grants to help manufacturing businesses train workers for the manufacturing jobs of today and tomorrow.
