The new state-of-the-art production facility for the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing is moving forward in Maryland.
The Beltsville site – which will house an environmentally conscious facility to print U.S. paper currency and other federal security products – was officially transferred to the U.S. Department of the Treasury this week.
The Bureau expects to have more than 800 workers on site in Maryland, with an additional 600 employees working remotely.
The Bureau is currently in the design stage of the project and plans to wrap up design development by summer 2023. Construction of the new facility – which is being managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Baltimore District – is anticipated to be completed by early 2027, with currency production starting mid-year.
Having its new production facility in Prince George's County will shorten the commute for the 65 percent of Bureau employees who currently call Maryland home.
