Home Chef , the subscription-based meal kit and food delivery service, is expanding into Maryland by establishing a new manufacturing and distribution center in Baltimore City. With this move, the company will grow its customer base while bringing more than 500 new full-time jobs to its new facility along East Patapsco Ave.
The Baltimore facility will be Home Chef’s largest by volume, accounting for more than 30 percent of Home Chef’s meal solutions delivered nationwide. The Maryland Department of Commerce and Baltimore Development Corporation worked proactively with Home Chef to assist with project costs, location services, and more.
"Home Chef's move into Baltimore City to expand its manufacturing and distribution center is yet another example of how the city's strategic location and easy access via rail, highway, port and air makes it a great manufacturing and logistics hub,” said Baltimore Development Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Colin Tarbert.
The booming company has served more than 300 million meals across the country since it first opened its doors in 2013. Since then, the Kroger-owned subsidiary has grown to include more than 2,500 employees. Home Chef currently has facilities located in Chicago, Atlanta, and Los Angeles.
Home Chef is among many other major companies tapping into Maryland's well connected infrastructure in recent months. Last year, Niagra Bottling and Fanatics were among the companies tapping into Maryland's robust distribution and logistics assets.
