A total of 116 Maryland businesses have been named among the fastest-growing companies in the country, according to the latest Inc. 5000 rankings.

The recent announcement, which includes industries ranging from construction to telecommunications to artificial intelligence, features nine Maryland companies named among the top 500 in the nation. See the below list for details.

These 116 companies added more than 8,200 jobs to the state, with a median growth of 184 percent. Eleven of these businesses were newly-formed and 76 businesses were repeat honorees on the Inc. 5000 list.

“We couldn’t be happier to see that Maryland has gained five additional companies on the Inc. 5000,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Kevin Anderson. “It’s no surprise that this year’s list includes a variety of innovative businesses, many of which are in tech-focused sectors, from AI to IT and beyond. With help from them, our state continues to become more competitive and our economy continues to flourish.”

When comparing the rankings, Maryland punches above its weight class. On a population basis, Maryland ranks ninth among the states for its share of Inc. 5000 businesses, and fourth for its share of all business establishments.
