Maryland is home to more than 100 of the fastest-growing companies in the country, according to the Inc. list released today.
The Inc. 5000 rankings names what the magazine calls the "superheroes of the U.S. economy." In total, 119 Maryland companies made the 5000 list with nine Maryland companies ranking among the top 500.
"I am proud to recognize the tremendous achievements of the 119 Maryland companies thatmade the prestigious Inc. 500 and 5000 list in 2016," said Governor Hogan. "Many of thecompanies named to the list are young and emerging companies, underscoring the outstandingresources and supportive business climate that Maryland offers entrepreneurs and start-upcompanies."
Furniture Solutions Group leads the Maryland companies, ranking 24th with more than 7,800 percent growth over the last three years. The Annapolis-based business purchases and provides movable furniture, fixtures, and equipment for hospitality clients and long-term care providers across the country.
Other companies included in the Inc. 5000 are veteran-owned cyber firm VOR Technology (296) and IT sales company RainKing Software (2826). In the past year, both companies received funding from the Maryland Department of Commerce and announced major expansions in the state.
Maryland also helps lead the country's women-owned business growth, ranking second with 24 percent. The national average for states – with more than 100 companies in the ranking – was only 14 percent for female-owned companies.
