The Internet-based marketplace is launching Prime Now – its mobile app offering one-hour delivery service – in two new cities today.
Starting in select Baltimore and Miami zip codes, one-hour delivery is now available for a $7.99 fee. Two-hour delivery is free.
The news was announced this morning at a BWI Business Partnership event featuring Amazon's Bill Kowal, Regional Director of Fulfillment. Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development Deputy Secretary Benjamin Wu was on hand to introduce Kowal to the breakfast crowd.
"Amazon is not only making investments in Maryland, but is also demonstrating its commitment to the community," said Wu. "Amazon is serving Baltimore by adding 1,000 new jobs and two new facilities, as well as offering this new service to the area."
Amazon launched Prime Now in New York City last December, resulting in high demand "on everything from essentials like water and paper towels to a hard-to-find top-selling toy." The speedy delivery service is available to only three cities across the country.
Prime Now is available exclusively for Amazon Prime members. The annual Prime membership provides customers with free two-day shipping, unlimited hours of television and movie streaming, and much more for $99 a year.
