Syngene International has officially landed in Maryland, with its first U.S. facility opening in Baltimore City at the end of the year. The announcement was made by Governor Wes Moore as Syngene gears up to create 300 jobs and further integrate into the U.S. life sciences market. The global research, development, and biotech pharmaceutical manufacturing company will locate at a 100,000 square-foot biologics manufacturing site at 5901 E. Lombard Street, formerly occupied by Emergent BioSolutions.
“We are excited to welcome Syngene International to Maryland as they expand their presence in the U.S. market,” said Gov. Moore. “As one of the nation’s leading states in biopharma, Maryland offers the ideal location for Syngene to build its footprint while creating jobs, driving innovation, and growing Baltimore’s economy.”
Based in Bengaluru, India, Syngene International delivers research, development, and manufacturing services to pharmaceutical, biotech, nutrition, and other specialty industries around the world. The new U.S. facility will be customized for monoclonal antibody (mAb) research and production, strengthening Syngene’s global biologics strategy and meeting rising demand from both domestic and international mAb developers in need of manufacturing capabilities. The addition of Syngene USA Inc. will also expand the company’s total bioreactor capacity, further supporting mAb production and manufacturing.
Lt. Governor Aruna Miller recently met with Syngene’s leadership at the BIO International Convention, where the company showcased its entrance into Maryland. The company’s Baltimore presence is also expected to enhance customer supply chain continuity by integrating with Syngene’s existing development and manufacturing sites across India and North America.
