Maryland’s Defense Technology Commercialization Center (DefTech) is expanding once again.

Established in 2018, DefTech helps connect startup businesses and entrepreneurs to federal resources for further development of commercial products. The new funding will allow DefTech to support 30 active client startups, entrepreneurs and small businesses with the tech transfer and commercialization process.

The DefTech program helps aid economic growth by encouraging small businesses to utilize federal lab and defense resources to develop a product for non-federal commercial or government markets. Dozens of startup technology companies have benefitted due to DefTech, using the opportunity to tap into federal markets with personalized support to secure grant funding for research, push technology and services out to the commercial market, and pitch technologies to the federal defense industry.

The expansion was made possible through a $585,463 grant from the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as matching funds totaling $183,338 from the Maryland Department of Commerce and TEDCO.
