Governor Wes Moore recently announced a series of actions to strengthen Maryland’s business climate.

The new executive order outlines nearly a dozen directives that will be supported by several state government agencies, with the goal of growing Maryland’s economy and creating expanded access to work, wealth, and wages for all Marylanders.

Many of the executive order’s actions will be established and executed by the Department of Commerce, including operating a new Office of Business Advancement unit; chairing a new Economic Competitiveness Subcabinet; leveraging resources to support the success of target industries; and coordinating marketing and branding efforts with local government partners.

“This executive order offers a clear road map to make Maryland’s economy more competitive, robust and equitable,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Kevin Anderson. “We have established the key industries and sectors that we believe hold the greatest potential for growth and success and identified new steps the Department of Commerce can take to help turbocharge our state’s economy.”

The executive order was signed during a visit to the Frederick Hotel and Conference Center project site, a development that is expected to create more than 200 new jobs and generate $1.5 billion in private sector spending over the next 25 years.
