Marissa Misner knew something had to change. She was working a corporate 9-to-5 job that left her feeling burnt out and exhausted. Her older sister Miranda, who has autism, had recently been denied disability benefits and struggled to find work that would allow her to thrive.
Together, they brainstormed starting a business that would provide them both with meaningful work and the opportunity to support themselves. They needed something that involved simple and repetitive tasks—and their solution was laundry delivery. With that, the idea for Frederick Laundry was born.
Frederick Laundry’s purpose goes far beyond providing customers with an exceptional experience; they also aim to create job opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
“It’s hard enough finding a job nowadays, and when you factor in having a disability like autism, it makes it almost impossible,” Marissa explained. “We started this business to do something we would both like, and to then give opportunities to other people with disabilities and create that sense of community.”
