The Maryland Department of Commerce is supporting half a dozen research professorships at colleges and universities throughout the state.
More than $23 million through the state’s E-Nnovation Initiative Fund – which was created by the Maryland General Assembly more than a decade ago – will endow higher education positions targeting scientific and technical fields.
The Maryland Institute College of Art; Loyola University Maryland; McDaniel College; the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science; Johns Hopkins University; and the University of Maryland, College Park have raised $11.7 million in private funding to support professorships focused on nanomedicine, biological processes, emerging technologies, fishery science, bioengineering, and entrepreneurship.
Additionally, Maryland Commerce has approved matching grants of $11.45 million to continue spurring innovative research across the educational institutions.
