An industry leader in steel manufacturing is bringing a pipe piling fabrication center to Baltimore County.

JD Fields & Company and Turkish manufacturer HDM Steel Pipe teamed up in 2022 to form JD Fields HDM Spiralweld Mill, LLC, which produces up to 72,000 tons of spiral welded steel pipe per year. The partnership is now expanding operations from Texas to the East Coast and plans to create approximately 150 new jobs in Maryland over the next two years.

Located at Tradepoint Atlantic, the company’s new state-of-the-art facility will produce specialized structural steel to be used in infrastructure projects across the country. Operations are expected to begin in 2027.

Tradepoint Atlantic sits on the former Bethlehem Steel site at Sparrows Point, once the largest steelmaking facility in the world and a cornerstone of American industry for over a century. More than 3,000 acres comprise Tradepoint Atlantic, a global trade and industrial hub with direct access to the Port of Baltimore.

“JD Fields HDM Spiralweld Mill has nearly four decades of experience in steel distribution, fabrication and manufacturing, and we are excited to expand our operations to the East Coast,” said Joel S. Showalter, president and chief financial officer of JD Fields. “We look forward to joining the Baltimore community and Tradepoint Atlantic. This new facility will allow us to continue providing value for our customers.”

JD Fields HDM Spiralweld Mill joins a growing list of businesses tapping into Tradepoint Atlantic’s potential. In recent months, RPM Group and Samuel Son & Co. have committed to locating at the site.
